Continuing the Journey

One of the reasons I love my current job and moving toward a teacher librarian role is sharing my knowledge and learning from others. There are few ways that I have found beneficial with it comes to staying update with current trends and sharing out the information.

Listening to Others

One of the best ways that I have found to develop my own skills is by listening to others with an open-mind. I work with so many amazing teachers and students who are exploring tech in their own time and in their own way. There are several teachers who enjoy trying new apps and/or using them in creative ways. I started "The Spotlight on Learning" as a way to share information at the beginning of our staff meetings. The idea being to shared a 2 minute (or less) video highlighting some great ways tech is being used. Either I would create a video based on a learning engagement I was involved in or teachers would share what they were doing. Not only was it a great way to up skill staff but it also empower the teachers to take ownership and pride in knowledge.

Weekly Tech Tips

My team also shares out weekly Tech Tips with the school community. Many of the tips are ones we have found either by accident or through our own investigation. However, more and more teachers are coming to us with suggestions for a tip. They are coming to us two ways, either people say they have found a useful tool or they ask us to provide a tip to help with a certain solution.

Twitter

Twitter is another way to learn from other Educators. Keri-Lee Beasley is one of my favorite educators to follow. I met her while I was working in Singapore eight years ago and was amazed by her innovative thinking and I am still a loyal follower. In additional to following individuals, I get inspiration and ideas from topic # such as #edtech or apps like Book Creator. It is an effective way to up-skill and gain ideas for free.

Continuing the Journey

The LIBE 477 class has been another great resources for continuing on with my professional development. The ideas everyone is sharing are inspiring and I look forward to learning more throughout this course. Hopefully, I will be able to stay connected with many after the class to continue the journey.
